Ingredients
  

Beignet Dough
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 0.75 cup warm milk
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter softened

  • Deep pot or fryer

Method
 

  1. Activate yeast in warm milk with sugar until foamy.
  2. Mix remaining ingredients to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead dough and let rise until doubled.
  4. Roll dough and cut into squares.
  5. Fry in oil at 350°F until golden and puffed.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

Best served fresh and warm with coffee.
