- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook onion until soft.
- Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Stir in tomatoes, sugar, vinegar, chili flakes, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer uncovered 30–40 minutes until thick and jammy.
- Season ground beef and form patties.
- Cook patties on a hot skillet or grill until desired doneness.
- Add cheese during last minute to melt.
- Toast buns, assemble burgers with tomato jam, and serve.
Notes
Tomato jam can be made ahead and stored refrigerated for up to one week.
