Ingredients
  

Tomato Jam
  • 2 cups fresh tomatoes finely chopped
  • 0.5 cup yellow onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 tsp red chili flakes
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
Burgers
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
Assembly
  • 4 brioche burger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter for toasting buns

Equipment

  • Skillet or grill

Method
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook onion until soft.
  2. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Stir in tomatoes, sugar, vinegar, chili flakes, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer uncovered 30–40 minutes until thick and jammy.
  5. Season ground beef and form patties.
  6. Cook patties on a hot skillet or grill until desired doneness.
  7. Add cheese during last minute to melt.
  8. Toast buns, assemble burgers with tomato jam, and serve.

Notes

Tomato jam can be made ahead and stored refrigerated for up to one week.
