Ingredients
  

Meatballs
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 cup onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 jalapeño minced
  • 0.5 cup cheddar cheese cubed
  • 1 egg large
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs day-old
  • 2 tbsp cilantro chopped
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
Frying
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for deep frying

Equipment

  • Skillet or deep fryer

Method
 

  1. Combine ground beef, onion, garlic, jalapeño, egg, breadcrumbs, cilantro, and spices in a large bowl.
  2. Shape mixture into balls, inserting a cube of cheese in the center and rolling tightly.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Fry balls in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 5–7 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve warm with salsa, guacamole, or sour cream.
