Ingredients
  

French Toast
  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread sliced 1–1.5 inches thick
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1.5 cups whole milk or half-and-half
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange bread slices in a single layer in the dish.
  3. Whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Pour custard over bread and let soak 10–15 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle slivered almonds on top, pressing lightly into bread.
  6. Bake for 35–40 minutes until custard is set and top is golden.
  7. Cool 5 minutes before serving. Optionally dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with syrup.

Notes

Can be assembled the night before; add extra 5–10 minutes to bake if chilled.
