Ingredients

Chicken
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste
Sauce
  • 1 large yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup sour cream full-fat
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Cutting board
  • Kitchen knife
  • Measuring cups

Method

  1. Season chicken with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika.
  2. Heat oil and butter in a skillet over medium-high. Sear chicken 4–6 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add sliced onions to the skillet and sauté until soft and lightly caramelized, about 8–10 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook 1 minute more.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the onions, stirring for 30 seconds.
  5. Slowly pour in chicken broth, scraping up browned bits.
  6. Reduce heat to low and whisk in sour cream until smooth. Do not boil.
  7. Return chicken to skillet, coating with sauce. Simmer gently 10–12 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

Keep heat low after adding sour cream to prevent curdling. Add mushrooms or thyme for variations.
