Ingredients
  

Creamed Beef Base
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 jar dried chipped beef rinsed and sliced
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • pinch of nutmeg optional
  • 1-2 tbsp heavy cream optional
Serving
  • Toasted bread for serving
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Rinse and slice the dried beef.
  2. Melt butter in a skillet.
  3. Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Slowly add milk, whisking constantly until thickened.
  5. Stir in chipped beef, pepper, and nutmeg.
  6. Add cream if desired; thin with milk if needed.
  7. Spoon over toasted bread and serve warm.

Notes

Taste for salt after adding dried beef; it's naturally salty.
